Inter-Schools’ Netball Season Opens


The 2017 Inter-Schools’ Netball Season began on October 31st in colourful style at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex with the Inter-Secondary Schools’ Teams taking the court. The Secondary competition began with an official opening ceremony, and heard remarks from the President of the Netball Association Mrs. Doris McIntosh and Mr. Earl Bennett of the Ministry of Education.

The opening day saw seven matches in both the junior and senior divisions. Central Leeward Secondary showed why they are a force to be reckoned with as they outscored their opponents Petit Bordel Secondary and Troumaca Ontario Secondary School 11- 2 and 20-7 in the junior and senior divisions respectively.

In other junior matches, Petit Bordel Secondary defeated defending champions Troumaca Ontario Secondary 8-6 in the closest match of the day and Bethel High School dominated the Girls’ High School 31-6 and Thomas Saunders Secondary 18-7. In the Senior Division, Thomas Saunders Secondary pivoted passed defending Champions Bethel High School 20-17 and Bishop’s College Kingstown out netted St. Clair Dacon Secondary 15-4.

The 2017 season continued on Friday 3rd November with the start of the Inter-Primary Netball Festival. The London Playing Field was turned into a netball arena with six (6) Zone A matches. Owia Government School got the better of all their opponents, scoring a total of 36 goals as they remained undefeated on the day. Fancy Government squeezed passed Sandy Bay Gov’t 8-5 and defeated Diamond Government 9-2 while the Sandy Bay Government triumphed over the Diamond girls 8-5 to earn some needed points.

A total of 16 schools are participating in the secondary tournament and 22 in the Primary Festival.
