Taiwan Doubles Scholarship Fund

Throughout the month of November, almost 800 scholarships will be officially awarded under the Taiwanese Human Resource Development Programme. This investment, now valued at 200,000 US dollars, represents a 100% increase over the amount previously donated per year.

Taiwanese Ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, His Excellency Bau-Shaun Ger, says that the scholarship programme was established in 1998, and since then, the government of Taiwan annually pumped 100,000 U.S dollars. A total of 1.9 million was recorded in sponsorship up to 2016.

The Human Resource Development Scholarships provide support for students all across the country, at all levels of the education system. Receiving awards this year are 345 primary school students, 336 secondary and 112 from post secondary institutions.

Since its inception, thousands of Vincentian students and their families have benefitted from the Taiwanese Human Resource Development Scholarship Programme. The initiative is based on a Memorandum of Understanding between the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
